So you know your brain is one of my favorites.

This election season was an interesting one for me, too. My view of the world has changed in some ways and, as you suggested, I find myself passionately on BOTH sides. I think you're exactly right that morality - while not irrelevant to politics - is distinct from politics. And I can't believe I'm saying this (after the inundation of political jargon over the last week), but I'd like to discuss this further with you. Let's facetime or something soon.

mmhmm. Power to the people is what I say. That's the great thing about democracy: it's designed to put the ball in our court. Now, whether or not that actually happens is another story.

Well, since you’ve asked…
I believe that – in theory at least - religion and politics are best kept separate. However, I also believe that government cannot operate independently from morality. Given that our country and its founding principles were firmly established on Judeo-Christian morality, I can’t see any practical way to actually separate religion and politics. While merging faith and politics seems like it should be easy, our personal and societal experience proves otherwise.
For me, the easiest way to unscramble this egg is to go back to how and why our federal government was engineered. As evidenced in our declaration and constitution, our founders’ intentions were to form a more perfect union, providing justice, defense against enemies, and protecting and preserving the liberty, general welfare and peace inalienably righted to its citizens – by God. Their hope was to form a limited federal government of, by and for the people that would result in this ‘more perfect union’ while keeping the bulk of rights, powers and control with its member states and citizens.
This is why, on a federal voting level for sure, I seek a candidate who can do his or her level best to work within these limits…someone who can do his best to protect our personal and collective right and freedom to thrive as citizens of this country morally, socially, commercially, and so on.
So, to any candidate, any party, present and future – stop telling us what you can do for us and how you can fix our every problem with our tax dollars. Start telling us that we are enabled, empowered and endued with the ability to fix things for ourselves, that you’re here to make sure it stays this way, and what you can do to stay out of our way.
To next Tuesday and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
